Monday Memo to Forests Department Chief

This morning the sun rose
a fraction north
of its normal spot.
You must shift the moss
a bit south on all barks,
reposition those leaves
tending to flip in morning breeze,
you know - aspen, birch.
Redirect the bees,
turn flower faces two degrees-
you can leave the dew alone,
I suppose, it'll be gone soon,
but you'll have to do something
about those birds.

I expect a report by noon.

  1. Hi Wanda,

    "And the heart pain?
    Lessens with each laughing breath"

    Sounds like a good remedy!

  2. Thanks, Derrick - extraordinarily kind of you to find something good to say - but I scrapped that poem. It wasn't ready yet. I have another one posted now - take a look.

  8. from Therese B. on RWP -- The outrageousness of the Herculean "labors" builds line-by-line, and the ending is priceless. I love the casual "you know" and the "I suppose." Great job, and so different from your poem of last week!

  10. You do wonder just what is to be done about those birds.
Just the right mix of whimsy and exasperation

  11. Thank you all! This was fun to write, of course. It always is when the subject matter takes the pencil out of the writer's hand and runs off in its own direction.
